Rod Powell

“I am not a Raleigh insider or a slick politician. I’m a retired school teacher who has spent my life serving North Carolina communities. I’m running for NC Senate District 44 to fight for working families, public schools, rural communities, and the people who are being ignored in Raleigh.”

Overview

After 30 years in NC classrooms, listening to students, parents, and families, I am running to be your state senator. People across District 44 deserve a senator who shows up, listens, and focuses on the everyday issues that shape their lives.

On this website, you will find information about my background, my vision for the future, and the key priorities that guide my work.

Priority Issues

There are many issues facing our communities, but these are the issues I hear most about across Cleveland, Lincoln, and Gaston counties.

01
Strong Public Schools

Teachers, students, staff, administrators, and parents deserve support and respect.

02
Healthcare Close to Home

People in rural communities should not struggle to find basic healthcare.

03
Reliable Roads and Infrastructure

Growth should be planned for before traffic and infrastructure become problems.

04
Lower Everyday Costs

People across North Carolina need relief from rising bills and everyday expenses.

Beliefs

I believe people deserve a government that listens to them.

I also believe in:

Strong public schools
Quality healthcare close to home
Affordable, accessible childcare
Good jobs with liveable wages
Honest, accountable government
Goals

I am focused on the issues that affect everyday life here at home. People across our communities are worried about many of the same things. And I will fight for those people.

Building strong public schools

I will fight for stronger public schools, better teacher support, and more resources for students and classrooms across our communities.

Protecting rural healthcare

I will support efforts to expand rural healthcare access, attract medical providers, and improve access to clinics, telehealth, and mental health services.

Ensuring our roads and infrastructure can keep up

I will push for better planning and investment in roads, traffic relief, water systems, broadband, and infrastructure that keeps pace with growth.

Lowering everyday costs

I will fight for all our community members, especially working families, who are dealing with rising utility bills, insurance costs, housing costs, and the everyday pressures facing ordinary people.

Get involved
